Direct drive (for all types of fan)

This description is limited to those designs where the fan impeller is directly mounted on the shaft extension of a suitable electric motor or other prime mover. The motor must be capable of supporting the weight of the fan impeller and also of resisting the end thrust produced by the pressure difference across the impeller. Standard Arrangement Nos. 4 5 15 and 16 are all applicable.
